L’Interprétation en milieu psychothérapeutique : témoignage d’une interprète

Résumé

L’auteur témoigne de sa pratique d’interprète professionnelle en milieu médico-social dans les consultations psychiatriques auprès des migrants et notamment des demandeurs d’asile. Elle expose les enjeux complexes de cette pratique : la confiance en lien avec les représentations autour de l’origine de la nationalité; la neutralité et l’impartialité, notion bien difficiles à saisir et à appliquer; les spécificités de la traduction en psychiatrie; les enjeux transférentiels et la difficile position de l’interprète vis-à-vis du thérapeute tout comme vis-à-vis du patient; des exigences très diverses des différents professionnels. L’auteur termine par quelques exemples tirés de sa pratique.

Abstract

The author is a professional interpreter in social and medical fields. She describes and testifies about her experiencing specific difficulties and stakes in that setting where migrants and asylum seekers are welcomed. She outlines the complex challenges of this practice : trust in connection with the representations about the origin and nationality; neutrality and impartiality, very difficult concepts to grasp and apply; the specifics of the translation in psychiatry; transference issues and the difficult position of the interpreter vis-à-vis the therapist as vis-à-vis the patient; very diverse demands of professionals. The author concludes with some examples from his practice and stakes in that setting where migrants and asylum seekers are welcomed.
