L’auteur analyse le travail avec interprètes auprès des demandeurs d’asile dans un cadre psychothérapique. En partant de la nécessité pour ces derniers de pouvoir s’exprimer dans leur langue maternelle, l’auteur aborde différents aspects d’un suivi psychothérapeutique avec interprète. À tour de rôle, les positions du thérapeute, du patient et de l’interprète sont interrogées. Que peut-il se dire dans un entretien à trois ? L’interprète arrive-t-il à tout comprendre ? Le thérapeute va-t-il tout entendre ? Qu’en est-il du transfert, autrement mobilisé que dans le colloque singulier ? Ces questions sont illustrées par des exemples tirés de la pratique clinique.

Abstract

This article looks at working with asylum seekers and interpreters in a psychotherapeutic setting. Starting from the premise that asylum seekers need to be able to speak in their mother tongue, the author reviews different aspects of psychotherapy in the presence of an interpreter. In turn, the article questions the place of the therapist, the patient and the interpreter. What can be said when three are present in the consulting room ? Can the interpreter understand everything? Will the therapist hear all that there is to hear? And what of the transference, mobilized in ways which are novel compared with the traditional therapeutic dyad? These questions are illustrated by examples from clinical practice.
