Résumé

La valeur d’une traduction n’est pas fonction de la fidélité au texte traité, ni de la seule traduction littéralement mot à mot, ni de la reconstruction de la phrase du texte-source, afin d’avoir une meilleure compréhension du texte traduit. En psychanalyse, elle ne vaut que si le traducteur a bien compris où se situe la question fondamentale qui anime l’auteur. La compréhension de la conception théorique du texte à traduire ne motive pas seulement le choix des mots, elle commande également la structure de la phrase du traducteur, qu’il soit psychanalyste, littéraire, scientifique ou philosophe. Pour cette raison, la lecture et l’interprétation du texte original en psychanalyse ne sont pas à l’abri d’une certaine pratique de l’analyse que l’on pourrait qualifier de nuisible. Traduire Instinkt par « pulsion » ou Verdrängung par « répression » n’a pas la même incidence conceptuelle ni les mêmes effets cliniques.

Abstract

The value of a translation is neither depending on the fidelity to the treated text, nor on the only literally word for word translation nor on the rebuilding of the sentence from the original text, in order to get a better comprehension of the translated text. In psychoanalysis, it is worth only if the translator has well understood where is the fundamental question which animates the author. The comprehension of the theoretical design of the text to translate not only justifies the choice of the words, but also orders the structure of the sentence of the translator, whether he is a psychoanalyst, a literary person, a scientist or a philosopher. That why, in psychoanalysis, reading and interpretation of the original text are not safe from a certain practice of the analysis which we could qualify as harmful. To translate Instinkt by “impulse” or Verdrängung by “repression” does not have the same conceptual incidence nor the same clinical effects.
