Corps et traduction dans les textes d’Antonin Artaud

Résumé

Par le biais de ses traductions adaptatives, Antonin Artaud se cherche au miroir de l’autre, tout en s’attaquant au corps organisé de l’oeuvre et de la langue. D’une part, il s’efforce de faire (re)surgir l’affect, de (re)trouver le souffle, le rythme, la voix, la lettre, enfouis sous la langue-instrument, la langue-machine, artificielle, inexpressive et démotivée. D’autre part, afin de faire barrage à la jouissance intrusive de l’Autre, il épure, parodie et parasite l’oeuvre-source, et en particulier le style de l’auteur ou du traducteur de référence. Il ne faudrait pourtant pas reléguer la traduction, chez Artaud, comme une activité secondaire, ni la considérer uniquement sous l’angle de ses vertus curatives : elle constitue une démarche récurrente, créatrice et novatrice, qui nous incite à réfléchir sur le statut et les limites du travail de traducteur.

Abstract

By achieving his “translations-adaptations”, Antonin Artaud is looking for himself through the mirror of the other while in the same time he is fighting against the organized structures of text and language. On the one hand, he strives to make affect emerging, to find (again) breath, rhythm, voice, letter, all buried under the instrumental, artificial, inexpressive, devitalized machine-tongue. On the other hand, in order to protect himself against the intrusive joyfulness of the Other, he parodies the original text, expurgating it or complicating it at leisure, focusing particularly on the author’ style as on the preceding translators’ styles, with which he interferes. Nevertheless, we should neither relegate the artaudian translation to a secondary activity nor estimate it only at its healing properties : it constitutes a recurrent, creative and innovating process that invites us to reconsider the status and the limits which define the translator’s task.
